Baja Weekender Epic Surf Camp - June 22-26
You're in for an awesome time as your Epic Surf Camp will be filled with ocean knowledge, video analysis after each session, and lots of fun. You'll walk away with so much stoke and information that it'll fuel the energy to keep you in the water. To do this, we've created a safe environment to learn and enjoy ourselves for four epic days.
You will have at least four surf sessions with video analysis and feedback. Plus, we will have at least four ocean knowledge lectures that'll help build your confidence as an all-around surfer.
We will meet in San Diego and jump in the Epic Baja Mobile (Chevy Suburban) to ensure a safe trip to our Baja Surf House. Plus, Manny V has a method to avoid the long border wait when it's time to head back to our meeting point in San Diego. That's a bonus when you consider border wait times could be up to 5 hours long! We will get across in less than an hour.

The Epic Baja Surf House is located in the safe gate community of Las Gaviotas. There are waves right out front of your home for the trip. You can walk to the surf, no problem. We are centrally located in the area, which means we'll be just a few minutes from delicious food, groceries, and surf shops. The house will be stocked with snacks and drinks to carry us over between our big meals. We plan to eat all our meals at local restaurants. This is just a small gesture of giving back to the community.

Just steps from the private white sandy beach, your Epic Baja Surf House is the perfect spot to get the most out of your stay. Two common areas, a full kitchen, and an amazing deck to watch the surf and sunsets await your presence. The four-bedroom home is split into 2 rooms with queen beds, one room with 2 full beds, and a room with a bunk bed... that's the room where I will stay.
The Epic Surf House is located 20 minutes south of Rosarito and in a populated area. The exact location will be sent to you shortly after you book your trip.
Epic Surf Tours focuses on three main principles: safety, learning, and fun. Epic Surf Camp will be just that… EPIC! Our goal is to get a minimum of one session per day. Each session will be followed up with a video and photo review session. This immediate feedback will help speed up your progression. We'll break down your surfing habits and analyze how to make minor adjustments to improve your surfing.
Plus, we will have a minimum of one hour per day dedicated to gaining a deeper understanding of ocean knowledge through wave science. This will help build confidence and guide you to learn more about Mother Ocean. Q&A throughout will provide open discussions on all things surfing.
We will have the right wave in front of our home if it warrants being good enough for us. If not, we have the option to load up the Baja Mobile and head to the very fun San Onofre-esque wave just a couple of minutes down the road.
For Beginners/Novice
Newbies will learn how to pop up correctly, learn wave selection, and eventually catch white water waves on their own. Depending on your progress, we will practice pop-up techniques on land for the first 5 to 10 minutes before your session. Then, it will be time to hit the water. Manny V and our photographer will keep an eye on your progress to ensure the greatest learning outcome.
For Intermediates
Manny V will coach you throughout the trip, ensuring progression with your surfing. You will be able to try out different boards from Epic Surf Tour’s collection of surfboards to gain an understanding of board shapes and designs. Our focus will be to help you with your surfing goals.
Monday: Crossing The Border
We will all meet in the town of Imperial Beach in south San Diego at 7:47am. There, we’ll load up the Baja Mobile (Suburban) and head south. We’ll stop to get our tourist visa at the border. 40 minutes later, we will arrive at the Epic Baja Surf House. You will spend the midmorning getting acquainted with your home base, talk about what's in store for your trip, and then we head off to have lunch at one of Manny's favorite places to eat. Once we get back, we prepare for our first surf session. For your first session, you will start with theory and everything you need to know about the break before getting into the water. After introductions and some land lessons in safety, surf etiquette, and basic techniques, you’ll be ready to hit the water and catch your first waves! This first session will help gauge your skill level and put together a lesson plan personalized just for you.
After your first session, it's time for the first slide show of the week. We go over your waves and point out some things to improve on for your morning session. It'll be a solid full day right off the bat.
Tuesday: Welcome to Surf Paradise!
After you wake up and have enjoyed your coffee or tea, we’ll take 15 minutes to stretch the essential muscles used for surfing. Then, after breakfast, we suit up and begin lesson number two. We will then go over any questions you may have before we hit the surf.
Manny V will teach basic surf dynamics, including paddling out, wave selection, and the pop-up technique. Manny V will be hands-on to work with you individually and give great tips to improve your efficiency. By the end of this day, beginners will have caught their first wave, and more advanced surfers will have perfected some fundamental skills.
After the morning session, we have breakfast and another surf improvement slideshow. We'll have a break before lunch then get back in the water for session number three in the afternoon.
Before we head off to dinner, we’ll spend some time going over some ocean knowledge. Information that you’ll carry with you throughout your entire surfing life.
Wednesday: Find Your Stroke
Your third day of surfing will build on the fundamentals you have already learned. Today, we will meet you where you are in your surfing. And if you're ready, we take you to the next level by teaching you how to select the best waves, fine-tune optimal paddling techniques, and we can't forget... ensure you're having fun surfing. The latter part of the morning will be an open surf session to catch a few more waves and one-on-one time. We will always keep you safe and only push you when you feel confident to take the next step in your surfing.
Thursday: Keep Pushing
We continue on your progression and focus on one or two things that'll get you to the next level.
Tonight we will have a lobster dinner at the infamous Puerto Nuevo village. And yes... we celebrate with awards and certificates of completion.
Friday: The Real Surfing Experience
This morning is your last chance to get in the water. You have the opportunity to use all the skills and ocean knowledge you learned in the past few days. Your surf coach will be right there with ya.
Things To Note
- Surf conditions will vary each day. Manny V is set on making sure everyone in the group has fun.
- Epic Surf Camp will have a limited quiver of surfboards for the guests to use. Please advise if you need a board or a wetsuit.

Location
Your Epic Surf Camp will take place in Northern Baja, just south of Rosarito Beach and about 50 miles south of the US/Mexican border. We will be just minutes from our lunch and dinner locations in Puerto Nuevo, Primo Tapia, and Rosarito. We are just steps from the surf break. This beautiful landscape is the perfect backdrop for an amazing week in Baja.
