Epic Surf Tours focuses on three main principles: safety, learning, and fun. As students under Manny V, you’ll be given tips on your surfing on a daily basis with the use of photos and videos. We'll break down your surfing habits and analyze how to make minor adjustments that'll improve your surfing. Plus, a minimum of one hour per day will be dedicated to learning about the ocean and how everything affects your surfing life. Q&A throughout will provide open discussions on all things surfing.
Newbies will learn how to pop up correctly and catch their own waves, beginning in the whitewater and progressing onto green waves. Depending on your progress, you will have a 10-15 minute land lesson in the first couple of days to practice techniques. Then it will be time to hit the water. Manny V will keep an eye on your progress and make sure you're at a surf break with the best conditions for your ability.
Manny V will coach you throughout the week, ensuring you are able to improve your surfing. Guests can try different boards from Epic Surf Tour’s collection of surfboards, meet great people, and enjoy a worry-free surf holiday.
We will all meet in the town of Imperial Beach in south San Diego. There, we’ll load up the Baja Mobile (Suburban) and head south. We’ll stop to get our tourist visa at the border then 30 minutes later, we arrive at base camp. You will spend the afternoon and evening getting acquainted with our home for the week and head off to an early dinner for some real tasty Mexican food. We’ll get back to our accommodation and get a good rest after the day of travel.
After you wake up and have enjoyed your coffee or tea, we’ll take 15 minutes to stretch the essential muscles used for surfing. Then, after breakfast, we suit up and begin lesson number one. For the first lesson, you will start with theory and everything you need to know before going into the water. After introductions and some land lessons in safety, surf etiquette, and basic techniques, you’ll be ready to hit the water and catch your first waves!
Manny V will teach you basic surf dynamics including wave selection, speed, and the pop-up technique. He will be hands-on to work with you individually and give great tips to improve your efficiency. By the end of this day, beginners will have caught their first wave and more advanced surfers will have perfected fundamental skills.
You will then have a break for lunch and head over to Tacho’s Tacos for some amazing grub. After returning, we rest and go over some photos/videos from your session. Weather permitting, you’ll take the rest of the afternoon at your own pace to improve the skills that you have learned.
Before we head off to dinner, we’ll spend some time going over some ocean knowledge. Information that you’ll carry with you throughout your entire surfing life.
Your second day of surfing will build on the fundamentals you have already learned. Today, Manny V will take you to the next level by teaching you how to select the best waves, pivot, and optimal paddling techniques to catch waves by yourself. Get ready to move to deeper water and catch breaking waves! The latter part of the morning will be an open surf session to catch a few more waves and some one-on-one time. Now you will have the confidence and skills to move on to the bigger waves and different breaks that lie ahead!
This day, we adventure. We will load up the boards and gear and explore another break and test your skills at another amazing break. Depending on the current conditions and the guest's level, surf breaks will be chosen to get you surfing. Manny V will take this day to the next level by teaching guests the dynamics of moving around a new surf break. Guests will have a chance to put to use all the skills and ocean knowledge they learned in the past few days.
If you just haven't had enough, get your morning surf and catch the last waves before your journey back to San Diego.
